In a world often divided, World Refugee Day stands out as a symbol of unity and compassion. This year, the Makerere University Rotary Peace Center, along with Peace Fellows Cohort 1, started a meaningful conversation that touched many hearts. Through an online platform, refugees themselves shared their stories, revealing the challenges they face in camps, their successes, and their resilience.
The discussion highlighted the daily struggles and triumphs of refugee life, reminding us of our shared humanity and the importance of empathy.
Under the theme “Solidarity with Refugees,” the dialogue emphasized the need for us all to support refugees, advocate for their rights, and amplify their voices.
Beyond words, action took center stage on the soccer field. A lively peace tournament brought together thousands of refugees. Starting with 12 teams—8 boys’ and 4 girls’—the tournament culminated in an exciting final on World Refugee Day.
This tournament wasn’t just about sports; it showed the strength and determination of refugees to find joy and unity despite challenges.
As we celebrate World Refugee Day, let’s continue to stand together in solidarity. Let’s listen, learn, and support refugees around the world. Together, we can create a world where everyone is heard and valued.
As we continue to honor World Refugee Day and supporting refugees, we call upon others to take on the mantle.. Together, we can make a real difference.
